Custer County Food Bank

The Custer County Food Bank is an independent non-profit organization, operating under the supervision of a local board of volunteers and one paid part-time position. Our mission is to provide approximately one week's worth of nutrition to individuals and families in need. Our funding comes from several sources which include local foundations, local businesses and organizations as well as individual donations. We also apply for grants when available. On a monthly basis, we are currently serving about 375 families comprising over 1,100 family members, many of whom are children under the age of 18 and senior citizens. We operate solely on donated food, grocery rescue programs and cash donations from individuals, organizations and grants when available.

ProducePedia

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!

State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
