Catholic Urban Programs - HUB Foods

HUB Foods, the food pantry at Catholic Urban Programs, carries out the organization's mission of advancing the dignity of the human person, remediating the effects of poverty, and empowering people to become self-sufficient by welcoming community members to our client-choice pantry on a monthly basis. As of July 2021, we are providing our clients with a grocery store-like experience after making the switch to client-choice. Since becoming a client-choice pantry, we have been able to greatly reduce food waste and find out what our clients actually want and need. We serve around 100 households each month, representing upwards of 240 individual mouths fed. We love being able to offer our families fresh fruits and vegetables. We have also found that baking supplies like flour and sugar are some of our most popular items! Donations of toiletries, personal care, and household cleaning supplies are also always welcomed.

ProducePedia

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
