Caritas is a food pantry serving neighbors in need in the greater Spokane area. In 2021, we helped nearly 8,000 individuals with food, utility payments, diapers, hygiene supplies, fuel vouchers, and bus passes. Fresh fruits and veggies are so appreciated by our clients! We serve people with a variety of health issues and food restrictions; making produce a top priority. We recently expanded our cold storage and are looking for partners to keep our shelves full.
We covenant to serve clients without prejudice or discrimination and to preserve their dignity.
Donation deliveries can be made outside of our normal operating hours by scheduling in advance (provided volunteers are available for your preferred time slot).
We are open for donations every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 9:30am-1:30pm. We have a covered Donor loading dock and hand trucks on site along with a team of volunteers to help you unload. Donation receipts available upon request at point of drop off. Calling in advance is encouraged but not required.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
