We are a local food pantry in Somerset County, NJ and we serve all families and individuals in need of food assistance. Feeding Hands exists to live out God’s commandment to care for the poor by loving and serving our neighbors in need. and our mission is “empathy, connection, and stewardship”. Because of these beliefs, we make every effort to respond to need with empathy by creating an environment where guests feel valued, and volunteers simply love to serve. We have built an organization recognized for its excellence. We are a model for demonstrating the profound impact pantry programs can have for both those in need as well as those who serve them.
Currently the demand for food assistance is even greater than it was during the spike during the first summer of Covid, in 2020. For the last 2 months, we have been serving 100 families per week at our main location, up from an average of 60 families per week. Inflation is hitting our guests hard, and Feeding Hands is there to help.
We love healthy, fresh food, and we are always in need of toiletries and basic cleaning items.
Currently, we are accepting donations Mondays, 9:00am-1:30pm and Fridays 8:30am-1:30pm at our new location, 186 US-206, Hillsborough Township, NJ 08844
Produce donations - it would preferable to have them dropped off on Mondays so the items were fresh for clients on Tuesdays.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
