Our small congregation supports a food pantry once a week on Tuesday mornings. We serve a variety of families from single homeless folks to families of 2-3 adults and 5-6 children. Our community is largely Hispanic and the needs are great. We are supported by the Maryland Food Bank and Maryland Emergency Food Support but fresh, healthy foods are not available often through these agencies. Our congregation members and local neighbors help as much as they can. We are currently serving 35-40 families a week and the supply of food and paper products go quickly.

Our pantry is opened on Tuesday morning, and donations on Monday or Tuesday would be ideal but we can most certainly accept food whenever it is available.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
