Central Storehouse

We are a food pantry ministry of Central Bible Church in Fort Worth, Texas. We have been open since June of 2021 and have served over 5,000 different households. We serve anyone who visits the Storehouse without discrimination. About 30-40% of our families are Spanish-speaking. East Fort Worth is our location which is one of the top areas in the country for food insecurity. We are in the process of planning for a transformation of our existing pantry to a more health conscious pantry. We have recruited a team of people to make up a task force to take on this Healthy Pantry Project. One of which is a health and wellness doctor. With this, we are looking to provide more options for fresh produce and health conscious foods, even organic options. We believe this will help increase the overall health of our community of east Fort Worth. We are open on Tuesdays & Thursdays to the public from 12:00 - 6:00pm where we see from 220-240 households each day. We have the blessing of sitting with each family, listening to their needs, and praying for them. Although we do not require that opportunity, 99.9% of the neighbors take advantage of the conversation and prayer time. We really have the opportunity to hear the specific needs of the families which them inform us on the general needs for those in our community.

ProducePedia

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!

State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
