Vivent Health serves a population of people living with HIV and AIDS. The purpose of our food pantry is to connect a patients/client’s health and nutrition with the goal of better health outcomes. Food pantry is combined with case management and additional Nutritional education and support. Monthly, we serve 15 families regularly and see an increase around the holidays when we give out turkeys and hams, which would be great to partner with local farms if available. We have a unique food pantry model where we provide the most nutrient dense foods that are available. Having access to more fresh produce would elevate our pantry to a level that our clients would appreciate. We offer many options and are always looking to expand.

ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
