We are a local non-profit organization serving low-income residents of Avon and Avon Lake, Ohio. We offer assistance through our on-site food pantry and through financial assistance for emergency expenses such as rent, utilities, car-related expenses, medical expenses, school supplies and fees, etc. We also provide assistance with development programs for topics like health & wellness, financial literacy, job training, etc. To qualify for our services the household income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. We also qualify families or individuals that have lost more than 50% of the household income or have experienced a financial hardship due to job loss or medical crisis. We serve approximately 500 households.
We accept donations of non-perishable and perishable food items, cleaning supplies, paper goods and toiletries during our regular business hours (Monday - Friday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.) We are closed on Fridays between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Donations can be dropped at our back door. Drive down the alley behind our office and ring the doorbell next to the CRS sign. Someone will open the door to receive your donation. We do not accept expired food, clothing or household items.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
