We serve everyone in need in the Belmont Craigin community. Last month we helped service over 1,000 people. We currently only get a limited amount of fresh produce twice a month But we are serving people every week and throughout the week. 03/15 we held a healthy choices seminar to educate members of the community. Luries Children released data for the 60639 area that there has been a 160% uprise of children with type 2 diabetes from unhealthy eating. We would LOVE to have a consistent redistribution of fresh produce, halal, and vegetarian items. We are always open to any donations as well. We have a lot of new moms in need of toiletries, diapers for their babies, Anything. We have recently received an influx of new migrants and we have assisted over 4,000.
For donors: We can pick up! We have trucks and buses. Either is fine with us!
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
