Messiah's Community Kitchen, a non profit organization operating in Rosedale, Maryland, under the Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam, a certified 501c organization. Our work consists of preparing and distributing hot meals to citizens on the streets in downtown Baltimore, and in the past 4 years, we have been blessed to serve around 40,000 meals. Our organization's mission is to reduce food insecurity and support struggling individuals and families. We have recently partnered with the MD Food Bank, to open a local food pantry, called the Messiah's Choice Pantry, in order to provide nutritious groceries and resources to neighbors and families in need. On our first day of operation, we were able to serve 15 families and a total of 68 people. By our second pantry day, the number increased to 22 families and 76 total people served.
As our pantry grows, so does our need for resources, in order to support our local community to the fullest potential. We try our best to provide a good variety of resources to our customers on pantry days. It’s for this reason we are looking for fresh produce to add to our list.
We can pick you up food from you as well .or if you are dropping it, we would appreciate a call before the delivery so there is a team member to meet you .
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
