Together operates a Choice Food Pantry, serving program participants from many different demographics. We assist seniors, families with children, food insecure households, LGBTQ+ families and individuals, refugees, immigrants, and citizens. We always love produce and are especially interested in halal donations and canned or frozen protein options. We work with the Nebraska Diaper Bank and Access Period, and we also offer body hygiene products (and are regularly low on them) and pet food.
Reach out to the pantry manager to discuss special drop off or pick up arrangements. Generally, we prefer donations to happen during open pantry hours, but some exceptions can be made with discussion.
Open M-Th 10-3 and Fridays 10-2. Donors can park in the lot south of the building and enter from the front doors on 24th St. Stop at the front desk and announce your intentions to donate and we can accept them at the counter or have someone help unload. Any canned or packaged food items must be labeled with expiration dates. The exception to this is produce, no labels are required for fresh produce.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
