One Mission Cambridge Mission Center

Since opening in June 2022, One Mission Cambridge has become a vital community resource for individuals and families experiencing poverty. Operating from a centrally located mission center in a low-income Cambridge neighborhood, the organization offers accessible, compassionate services that meet immediate needs while fostering long-term stability. A coalition of local churches in partnership with dedicated community leaders and volunteers manages the mission center. Core services include a client-choice food pantry, community navigation and resource assistance, counseling programs, and monthly community dinners. The center also features a welcoming café that provides a safe, dignified space for meals, conversation, and encouragement. Through relationship-based programming, One Mission Cambridge builds trust, strengthens community bonds, and restores hope.

The Mission Center is open every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The client-choice food pantry operates in a grocery-store-style format, allowing guests to select food items that best meet their household needs. This approach promotes dignity, choice, and reduced food waste. In 2025, the pantry served 1,175 households, benefiting 768 children, 1,249 adults, and 515 seniors. In addition to food assistance, One Mission Cambridge hosts monthly community dinners that serve nutritious meals in a welcoming, family-style setting. These gatherings foster connection and reduce isolation, particularly for individuals who are lonely or marginalized. Average attendance is about 60 guests per dinner, with some events serving up to 100 participants. The organization plans to expand this model to additional neighborhoods throughout Dorchester County to further strengthen community connections. Trained staff and volunteers provide community navigation services by listening to clients’ needs and connecting them with critical resources such as housing assistance, healthcare, employment services, and public benefits. On-site access to computers and phones enables guests to schedule appointments, apply for jobs, and complete benefit applications. Counseling services are essential to One Mission Cambridge’s holistic approach. Individual counseling, anger management, and grief support programs address growing mental health needs in the community. These services were developed in direct response to community feedback and reflect the organization’s commitment to emotional and spiritual well-being. ________________________________________

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
