How these numbers are calculated
Figures come from the 20-year model built for AmpleHarvest.org by a team from the Harvard Business School Alumni Association, using publicly available data from the USDA, the National Gardening Association and the Master Gardener Program alongside AmpleHarvest.org’s own multi-year surveys.
The model follows a gift through the gardeners it informs, how many of those go on to donate, how many stop each year, and how many more they bring in by word of mouth. Produce is valued at market rate and discounted back to today’s dollars. These are estimates, not guarantees.
