Agrarian is a nonprofit organization committed to ending food deserts in the Bay Area, with a focus on Oakland and SF, through our inclusive cooking school for all ages and backgrounds and through community events, dinners, and care packages/materials for the unhoused or anyone who needs help. We prioritize seasonal, local ingredients and holistic nutrition for health, mood, and well-being. Our ability to serve people in need comes from our partnerships with a range of organizations, including BACS, Golden Gate National Recreation, Oakland Schools, CASA, Planting Justice, Project Avary, Thrive, and more.
Our staff has years of experience in food service and barista work and experience running cooking programs across the Bay Area. We are passionate about vegan and vegetarian cooking spanning all cuisines, as well as sourcing traditional recipes and organic produce. Not to brag, but we are pretty great cooks and experts at incorporating seasonal, local produce into our sweet and savory creations.
Our nonprofit is special: we are addressing the base of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: physiological wellbeing. Food is crucial to this base need, which is why our nonprofit’s provision of bulk vegan and vegetarian goodies packed with healthy fruits, veggies, and superfoods and natural flower and essential-oil packed wellness and self-care items are integral to cumulative wellbeing in the East Bay. We regularly pass out health-packed items in quantities of 300+ to people currently incarcerated, the houseless, and many people in need. We have passed out thousands of goods and meals to the East Bay community. Our amazing partnerships give us access to people currently in prison and tons of people who need support. We are bringing back a sense of zen, holistic, communal wellbeing to California.

ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
