Albaseerah International Institute is a community-based 501(c)(3), SFA, and food pantry located in the heart of Plainfield. We operate an on-site Food Pantry and School Meal Program dedicated to our students and their extended families, as well as our immediate neighbors in Union County. We are not just a school; we are a lifeline for a high-need community. We serve a diverse range of families, primarily young, hard-working households and low-income residents in Union County, Middlesex County, Somerset County, and the surrounding areas. Because we are an Islamic institution, we serve a significant number of families with specific dietary needs, but our pantry doors are open to all members of the community regardless of background. We LOVE healthy fresh food!
Our families often struggle to afford fresh produce at the grocery store, so your garden-fresh tomatoes, peppers, greens, apples, and herbs are our most requested items. We request kosher/halal donations as well to support the dietary requirements of most of our families. In addition to food, we have a constant need for personal hygiene items (soap, toothpaste, shampoo) and household cleaners to help our families maintain a healthy home. Because we operate out of a 40,000 sq. ft. facility, we can handle both small bags from a backyard garden and larger pallets of donations from local farms. Drop-off Instructions: We make it easy for you :) Please bring your donations to our main entrance at 232-242 East Front Street. We have staff and volunteers available to help you unload. Your "over-planting" becomes our community's blessing!!

ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
