For 15 years, our church has offered a free meal to anyone who needs it in the community. We used to serve 35-50 people each week, now we are serving 150-200 people. The need is so much higher now. We are located in the middle of Fulton, NY., population of 11,000. We deliver meals to a low-cost housing apartment building, and we feed a number of homeless families with children. This week the meal consisted of chicken, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob (which was donated). We have a small congregation now, so we are searching for donations of any kind that we can use. Walmart gives us cans of food once a month that we distribute to the people who come for dinners. We have an area to share donated toiletries to those who come. Our diocese gave us a grant last year to keep our ministry going, but we try to use every type of food we receive for our meals. Thank you for your consideration.
Please call 315-657-6317 or 315-592-2105 so we can arrange to open the church for any donations. We can also arrange to pick up food from any place willing to donate.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
