Amherst Survival Center

We are a food pantry first and foremost, but we also provide daily produce items as part of our Fresh Food Distribution and serve lunches during our open hours that features various dishes that incorporate donated produce. We currently serve a wide array of demographics and age ranges through our on-site pantry and coordinated site deliveries that are brought to participants' homes monthly. Our numbers are growing steadily each month and last month alone we served 1,291 households through the on-site and delivery options, which does not include the increasing numbers visiting our Dining Room and Fresh Food Distribution. We accept donations of all kinds, from food to household items to baby food to hygiene products. Anything that you are willing to provide will be incorporated into our daily allotments.

Any larger donations should be brought through the back door by the dumpsters and pallets of cardboard boxes. There is a separate driveway at the back of the building that can be utilized instead of the main parking lot, particularly during our open hours. Donations are accepted Monday-Friday 8am-4pm. Please ask for a staff member to assist you. Phone extension = x109

ProducePedia

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!

State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
