Church of Shambhala Feed the Needy in Omaha Program
Pantry #11303
We are a mobile food service that operates 7 days a week feeding the homeless and needy across the streets of Omaha. Each day we make 115 hot lunches (grilled sandwiches - tuna melts, turkey or ham and cheese, cheese, and peanut butter and jelly) which we serve with fruit, bags of nuts, and hot or iced coffee depending the weather. We also provide water and essentials such as hygiene supplies. We take these out in our van 7 days a week, some days we have a downtown route, sometimes we go from bridge to railroad to river to woods, to seek out the pockets of homeless and rough sleepers. We work with other organizations such as Heart Ministry, Open Door and Salvation Army to identify homeless locations, and receive some support also. We would enormously appreciate pieces of fruit suitable for a lunch sack, any type of nuts, cheese, meat suitable for a sandwich (can be whole or sliced either works fine), coffee, mayo, hygiene supplies....
and anything else you can think of!

ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
