Community Outreach Ministries (COM) is a poverty alleviation non-profit in Polk County, MO. We operate a food pantry and offer case management programs to empower local individuals and families to escape poverty. Our main pantry is in Bolivar, MO, but we also operate a mobile food pantry in Humansville, MO. We are always looking for fresh produce, especially produce from local farms or gardens. "Grade-outs" are acceptable too. COM is a member of Ozarks Food Harvest, a Feeding America food bank.
We can accept donations of food Tue-Fri 9-4 and Sat 9-12. For large donations, we appreciate it if you can give us a heads up by calling 417-326-2769. If you have produce that needs picked, call us and we can arrange for volunteers to come harvest.
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
