We are the Basic Rights Center at Cuyamaca Community College. Our mission is to advocate alongside our students as they secure their right to housing, their right to food, their right to mental health and their right to wellness. Our student population is very diverse and we serve a lot of older students with families, single parents, immigrants, and all sorts of students who are hungry and need food. We serve a large population of students, for example in September we served 450 students, and this does not include students who visit our pantry more than once a month. Every month on the second Wednesday of the month we have a fresh farmers market in the main college center where we give out fresh produce to students. Cuyamaca Cares has a lot of programs to help students in need, but the pantry is the main one.
One of our priorities is to give our students healthier and fresh food options when we can, but that can be hard due to the demand and cost.

Want an email when this food pantry updates their hours or other information?
Our building is located to the side of the school by the lower field and the child development center, there are blue "pantry" signs with arrows leading here. We would appreciate a call or email to schedule days/time. Mondays work best since these are our restock days! Thank you!
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
