We recommend calling or emailing the pantry ahead of time to be sure their days/hours of operation have not changed.

Downtown Ecumenical Services Council (DESC)

We are a food pantry located in downtown Jacksonville, serving individuals, families, veterans, disabled persons, children, elderly, LGBTQ, etc. Last year we fed over 3,000 families and over 6,500 individuals. We appreciate healthy fresh produce, however on any given day we do not know in advance our available refrigerator space. We can always take non-refrigerated items, but the other would have to be discussed prior to dropping off. We also give away clothing, toiletries and diapers.

Please call before you come. (904) 358-0809. Our front doors are not always open and we have a back door in another parking lot that we often use for deliveries that requires instructions.

ProducePedia

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!

State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
