We are a food pantry in the Union Park area of central Florida. We are serving 160-173 household's each week. This is a 69% increase from last year. Each week it is our desire to provide fresh produce, dairy, meat and other health options for our surrounding community. We are considered a food dessert. We have partnered the the NUDGE Program at UF to educated our families and individual's about healthy eating. We provide them with the nutrients of the fruits and vegetables along with recipes that will help them make better choices. We like to provide meal companets and not just a random bag of items. Our population at our pantry is young families, homeless in our area, seniors and those that looking for food help to stretch the growing inflation of country. We also partner with the Elementary school to families that are struggling as well. The only donations we are not currently taking in are clothing, household items or toys.

ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
