Every month, Food for Thought takes a trailer full of food to 10 different locations throughout the Greater Toledo area to pass out to communities in need. Included in every food pantry is shelf stable food items (canned beans, soup, pasta, cereal, tuna, etc..), dairy items (milk, eggs, cheese), fresh produce (fresh fruits and vegetables), and frozen meat. These 10 pantries collectively serve more than 750 families every month. Many area senior citizens and families with young children rely on us to help provide them with fresh food.
We provide 10 mobile food pantry locations. The day/time/location varies. A list of our locations is on our feedtoledo.org under 'Where we serve'. I can also email this list.
Our address is our warehouse location where we store our food. Since we are out in the community most days, it's best to call to make delivery arrangements. We may also be able to pick up the food as well.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
