The mission of Friends of the Poor is to bring together in friendship those who have the desire to give with those who are in need of assistance, in order to ease the burden of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for all. One of the main ways we do this is through our 14 client-choice pantries. At our two full-time pantry locations and 12 other satellite pantries we serve over 3,000 households a month. To find additional information about these services check out the food assistance tab on our website. We appreciate any unopened, unexpired food donations and are constantly looking for ways secure and distribute fresh produce, dairy, meat, and more. Beyond food donations, we accept furniture, home goods, toiletries, clothing, and more.
Information on how to drop off those donations can be found on our website.

Our main full-time pantry is located in front of Jackson Terrace Public housing, in a tan building. The pantry is open Monday through Friday from 9am - 5pm and food donations can be dropped off anytime the pantry is open. If you have difficulty finding the location or have questions call 570-348-4429.
If looking to donate items in bulk, please call or email to schedule a drop off.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
