We are a food pantry providing food insecure families with food, clothing and other assistance. We serve all families and individuals in the communities of Geneseo and Atkinson Illinois, serving in excess of 120 families (about 280 individuals, including children) on a monthly basis. We network with other agencies in and around our service area to provide full-service assistance for our guests. These other agencies may provide health, housing, construction repair, childcare, and other essential services which may address our guests' entire sense of wellness. We are perpetually on the lookout for ways to increase the healthy options available to our guest, and fresh fruits and vegetables are a critical part of this endeavor. We actively participate in the River to River Food Pantry Coalition, which is aimed at improving services provided to Pantry Guests in the Illinois counties of Bureau, Henry, LaSalle, Marshall, Mercer, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, and Whiteside.
We can accept food donations at non-scheduled times. Staff is frequently here on most regular days by 8am (or shortly after). Arrangements can also be made in advance to make donations on any day, and almost any time during the week; even if we are normally closed on those days/times.
We accept donations any time we are open; there are no set donation times. We're open Monday from 9am to 7pm; Tuesday & Thursday from 9am to 4pm, and Friday from 9am to noon.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
