Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark operates a weekly food pantry through our West & Central Village Community Resource Hub in Newark. We serve approximately 75–100 households each week, including families with children, seniors, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and residents experiencing food insecurity throughout Newark and neighboring communities. Our pantry provides fresh produce, proteins, and shelf-stable groceries to help families prepare balanced meals at home. We especially welcome donations of NJ grown produce. We also appreciate culturally appropriate foods, vegetarian options, and unopened shelf-stable products. Since launching our pantry in 2020, Habitat of Greater Newark has distributed more than 200,000 meals.
Beyond food assistance, our Community Resource Hub connects residents with services such as identification restoration, health screenings, benefits navigation, financial education, computer access, and critical home repair resources. Our goal is to provide welcoming, dependable support that strengthens the health, stability, and dignity of every household we serve.
Our Resource Hub is only open Wednesdays and Thursdays. Drop-off outside of these can be coordinated with Faith via email or cell (preferred).
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
