Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry serves clients across Houston. We are completely volunteer-run and rely on assistance from community members every week to prep, package and distribute food. We strive to provide a diverse, nutritious mix of food to our clients who visit once every 30 days. We also serve unhoused individuals on a weekly basis. We accept donations of non-perishable pantry staples, fresh produce from community gardens, diapers, feminine products and used grocery sacks (paper and plastic).
We have a donation bin onsite that is open for non-perishable contributions 24/7. If you have a large or perishable donation, contact the pantry via email or phone to schedule a drop-off time.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
