Helping Hands of Goose Creek is an emergency food pantry providing groceries and resources to families of Goose Creek and the Low Country counties. Each family receives fresh produce, frozen meat, bakery products and toiletries and can shop in our choice pantry where they can choose what non-perishable items they take home with them. If they fall below the TEFAP poverty lines, they get additional USDA food as well. HHGC serves nearly 400 families monthly in addition to around 100 senior families with another program.
Our heart is to be problem solvers to help those in need. We help single parents, families with different home dynamics, the unhoused, the immigrants, and the senior population. We have found cooking sources, opportunities to supplement families who don't qualify for USDA, offering Saturday shop hours, shower partnerships and more. At Helping Hands we'd be happy to receive donations of any of the following types: hygiene, produce, non perishable grocery items.
Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9-11:30AM. Our staff is usually in house between 7AM and 2PM. Please email or call if you need to make a donation outside of these times.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
