The Southern Utah University HOPE Pantry provides essential food and toiletry items to SUU and STECH students, as well as educational opportunities to develop food budgeting, meal planning, and cooking skills. The Pantry also works to raise awareness of food insecurity and food waste, and encourages student engagement in learning and service opportunities to address these issues on our campus and in our community. We serve 300-400 students each month during the summer and 800-1,000 students each month September through April. Fresh food is our biggest challenge to acquire and students LOVE to have the opportunity to receive fresh produce! (Please note, there is a different pantry in the community opened in the last few years also named the Hope Pantry--not the same. Our Pantry has existed since 2002).
Please call with questions. We're happy to pick up and can even help with harvest, if needed.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
