Our vision is simple. We are neighbors coming together for the nourishment of the whole community to create hopeful and confident community members. Our mission is to provide food and advocacy for our neighbors across Kuna and the rural areas surrounding us who are experiencing hunger. By providing service opportunities for our local businesses, church groups, volunteer organizations, and residents, we are fostering a community where neighbors come together in support of one another. We support our community through our food order placement services by speaking with our clients over the phone about the goods we have fresh and available. We are able to cater their orders to their personal needs, family sizes, and in some cases dietary restrictions.
In operation for over 30 years we have evolved from a local church basement to our own facility. Of our client base, 40% are children and 10% are senior citizens. We coordinate services to support our local school pantry and after-school care facilities as well as our local senior center.
Donations are accepted anytime during our posted business hours at https://www.kunafoodbank.org/contact/ or we can arrange for delivery with you through if you would like to contact us at [email protected].
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
