We provide food, toiletries and other household essentials for residents of East Lewis County that are in need of assistance. We are a remote community nestled in the heart of the mountains and have limited access to affordable food. With the closest major town 90 minutes away, and the local grocery store priced beyond what many families can afford, food insecurity has become an urgent issue. We are always in need of toiletries, including shampoo & conditioner, hand and dish soap, shaving cream, baby care (diapers, wipes, lotions, soaps), etc. We are in need of protein-dense items such as meat and dairy, as well as fresh produce and healthy easy-to-prepare meals.
The Livable Packwood Pantry is located in the Packwood Senior Center / Timber River Connections building. We are typically open weekdays 9 am to 3 pm and Saturdays (September thru May, noon to 1 pm; June thru August at the Packwood Saturday Market). Donations are accepted during those hours. Alternatively, we can arrange pickup of donations if needed.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
