Our pantry began in 1984 by the congregation at Chillicothe Assembly of God Church and Rev. Ed Dutton. Our goal is to help those who are struggling financially such as seniors with lower incomes, as well as single parents raising children, and families that are just struggling. Donations can be given of food, or monetary donations. Many community leaders and businesses as well as several of the local churches donate to this outreach. The pantry is open every Friday from 12:30 TO 3:00PM. We serve an average of 60 families weekly. We would love to have healthy fresh food to offer the pantry clients and toiletries are appreciated too. Donations can be dropped off at the church weekdays from 10-12 and Fridays 10:00-2:00pm. We serve Chillicothe and the surrounding area, including Sparland, Lacon, Henry, Mossville, Rome and Princeville.
Please call before you come to schedule a a drop off of food.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
