M.I. Lewis Social Service Center

M.I. Lewis Social Service Center is one of the largest social service agencies in Galveston County, serving as a lifeline for families in crisis. At our heart is a robust food pantry program that provides nutritious groceries, fresh produce, and essential household items to families experiencing hardship. In 2024 alone, we served 26,898 individuals through our pantry, mobile food distributions, and senior deliveries. We serve a diverse cross-section of our community: Young families struggling with high housing costs and low wages Seniors on fixed incomes who must often choose between food and medicine Veterans returning to civilian life and in need of support Single parents working multiple jobs to provide for their children Individuals experiencing homelessness who turn to us for stability and hope Our pantry is unique because we don’t just provide shelf-stable items we prioritize healthy, fresh food. Fresh produce is one of the most valued items by our clients, and donations of fruits, vegetables, dairy, and lean proteins are deeply appreciated.

We also welcome donations that meet cultural and dietary needs, including kosher, halal, and vegetarian-friendly foods. Beyond food, our families are in constant need of basic household supplies and toiletries items such as shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, diapers, and feminine hygiene products, which cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. These are often the hardest items for families to afford and the most cherished when donated. At M.I. Lewis, we believe that no one in our community should have to go hungry or go without dignity. Together with our partners and generous supporters, we are able to continue saying “yes” to families when they need us most.
