The Mobile Farm Stand is a program initiated by the Community Action Center of Whitman County. During the growing season (June-October), our refrigerated van regularly visits rural communities in Whitman and Latah Counties whose residents face difficulties accessing fresh, nutritious food. Many small towns lack a grocery store, food pantry, or both and often drive close to an hour to the closest supermarket. Most of the distributed produce is purchased from local, small-scale farms. However, we often have difficulty acquiring sufficient produce from local growers and sometimes struggle to meet the needs of Palouse residents. We appreciate any donation of fresh fruits and vegetables that is offered.

We operate during the local growing season (June-October) and value any donation of seasonal produce. We appreciate you notifying us before drop-off as we spend most of the week traveling to various communities.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
