Our food pantry is cleverly called The Pantry! By the summer of 2018, we hope to be open at least two days a week but at this time we help feed local families in 2 ways: 1) Third Saturday Outreach and 2) Bags and Hugs Downtown. On the Third Saturday of each month, we have an outreach at our church which offers a variety of resources and services including food (canned, fresh and frozen) and toiletries, haircuts for adults and children, health screenings, resume assistance, connections for GED and the Meguiddo Job-Training, children's activities and prayer support. Typically, we serve 60-75 families each Third Saturday of the month. Our bi-weekly ministry in downtown Augusta serves 60 - 70 families who live in a low income apartment building in an area now labelled a food desert. Our Pantry does an excellent job of providing a good variety of frozen meats, canned and dry goods but we would love to provide more fresh fruits and vegetables.

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
