The Petroleum Valley Food Cupboard began around 1970 as a small food cupboard serving the people of the Karns City Area (Pennsylvania) School District. We have expanded into four Butler County, Pennsylvania Townships and we serve the entire Northeastern portion of Butler County, Pennsylvania. We accept donations from a variety of sources, including individuals, church groups, civic groups, businesses, industry and other nonprofit organizations. We are operated solely by volunteers and we have no paid staff.
Anyone interested in receiving food is encouraged to call or text 724-679-6062 to schedule an appointment. This is an unattended wireless number that is usually checked weekly. For food and other donations, please call 412-992-6610 to schedule delivery or pick up. All monetary donations can be mailed to PVFC, P.O. Box 142, Chicora, Pennsylvania 16025.
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
