PAFB is a food bank and a food pantry that collaborates with 13 other area agencies in Clallam County. We expanded our operations in December of 2020 and served over 3000 families/month in our new grocery store "The Market" where the community member choose their own groceries free of charge. It is a supplemental resource that helps many in need. The Market is open Wed-Fri from 11 am-6 pm and Saturday 11 am-2 pm. Community members are welcome to shop any day that we are open and there ALL are eligible without any requirements. We are also accepting donations on Mon and Tue from 11-2.
Personal items and canned and easy-to-eat meals are often requested in the Market. The new facility is also equipped with a commercial kitchen where excess food is turned into ready-to-eat meals for the customers who receive deliveries and are homebound.
Donors can drop off the food on the west side of the Market where the warehouse doors are. We accept all donations that aren't over a year old and accept produce and eggs. Donors are also welcomed to give us a call and we can arrange a pickup. We also work with the Port Angeles Gleaner group and often receive many delicious backyard foods.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
