Salem Shares is a food-sharing ministry of Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church in Etters, Norhtern York County, PA. We distribute milk, eggs, meats, fresh produce and a wide variety of dry goods the first Thursday of each month, 3:30pm - 6:00pm. We are agency partners with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and the York County Food Bank, and though we receive food from The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) we depend on food and monetary donations to distributed food. With the Central PA Food Bank, we are partnered with the PA Healthy Pantry Initiative, and strive to provide nutrition-enriched fresh produce each month on which many pantry guests desire and depend. We love fresh healthy foods! Non-perishables that are low sodium and low sugar are appreciated. On average, we serve 75 families each month, mostly senior citizen living only on Social Security and working families as well as some non-English speaking neighbors. When registering, our guests often give testimony that they are one major expense from losing their home or car. "If you need food, we are here for you. If you have food, we welcome your food donation or your time to help others."
Salem Shares Food Pantry is only open the first Thursday of each month. We do however have some storage to accept fresh foods/produce up to a week in advance. Please contact us to arrange a time to receive your donation. [email protected]
Salem Shares Food Pantry is only open the first Thursday of each month from 3:30pm - 6:00pm on a first-come, first-serve basis. No appointments taken. If you want to make a food donation, please contact us to make arrangements to receive it.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
