Sierra Community House's Hunger Relief Program is a food pantry that provides hunger relief services through weekly food distributions and other community food programs. 750+ families in the North Lake Tahoe / Truckee region rely on us for weekly supplemental nutrition. One of our main focuses in our program is dignity - we aim to offer our community members the chance to feed their families with high quality, fresh, local foods they might not otherwise have access to.
We cannot accept donations outside the scheduled times, however we are happy to arrange for a pick up with our refrigerated box truck Monday - Thursday mornings. Donations will be accepted at our warehouse in Truckee for distribution in Truckee on Tuesdays, King's Beach on Wednesdays, and Incline Village on Thursdays.
We have a refrigerated box truck, so we can arrange for one-time or weekly pick ups. We can also arrange to receive your delivery if you would prefer this.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
