The Soldiers’ Angels Detroit Food Pantry is a vital resource dedicated to supporting low-income veteran and military families in the Detroit area. Operated in partnership with the VA and powered by compassionate volunteers, the pantry provides monthly food assistance to veterans who are struggling to make ends meet.
Each month, pre-registered veterans receive supplemental groceries, including fresh produce, pantry staples, and other essential items—helping to ease the burden of food insecurity and stretch limited incomes further. The pantry serves 100 veterans or military on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 9am-11am.
More than just a food pantry, the Detroit Food Pantry is a place where veterans and active military are welcomed with dignity, respect, and a sense of community. By meeting a basic need, Soldiers’ Angels helps local heroes focus on what matters most: healing, stability, and a better future.

ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
