St. Andrews AME Church/ Lydia Smith Ward Women’s Missionary Society

Our church’s women’s missionary society has taken on an admirable initiative to address the growing issue of food insecurity among unhorsed individuals in our community. With a focus on those living beneath freeway overpasses in the surrounding areas, we aspire to open a food pantry to provide essential sustenance to those in need. We also want to provide feminine hygiene products on a regular basis as well . At this time we in our initial stages and plan to give out food in our church parking lot near a secured door at back of church.

State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
