St. Andrew’s Food Cupboard is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that provides food for about 400 families every month. These families may struggle with poverty, poor health, relocation, or housing concerns. Most families served by the Food Cupboard are headed by single parents. Single parents and their children make up the majority of people served. The clothing closet offers all apparel, footwear, towels and bedding.
The housing ministry has safe affordable apartments on the premises. We belong to a Healthy Choice Food Program where fresh products are a priority. Our donation flier lists healthy foods as suggestions for group collections. We have a diverse group of clients and seek culturally varied foods. We are 100% volunteer which frees funds and prompts us to find alternative sources for fresh options to offer clients. Toiletries, baby items, kitchen and dining ware are available as well. Our library and wall of referral information helps clients with their further needs.
It is our preference to have a gardener deliver the products to our brown garage receiving door. It is on our corner side of the building at 12 Randolph St. Rochester, 14621
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
