St Thomas More Catholic Community Food Pantry

Our pantry began in 2019 with the weekly donations from our @6,000 registered families of the parish. We have provided food for @575 families over the 4 years. We also go through our product, those with close expiration dates we box up and pass on to other pantries in need that can give out the food Catholic Charities, Catholic Worker, St. Therese Center for Aids & St. John Neumann Parish in North Las Vegas. We have a dedicated room with built-in shelves, and a 9.5 ft x 3ft intake table built by an Eagle Scout. We also have an industrial size refrigerator & full size upright freezer. We serve families by appointment within our parish, by referral & those who find us through Google, transient persons, no one is turned away. The family shops for items to supplement their grocery needs with dignity, choosing what they desire. We receive minimal fresh produce, dairy, breads & frozen food. These items would be greatly appreciated if available more often, since we do have the available large refrigerator & freezer. We do also need toiletries, cleaning supplies, children & adult diapers.

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
