The Centre For Excellence of Pensacola Community Table

The Community Table is The Centre For Excellence of Pensacola's food subsidy program. The Community Table provides families in need with a box of food helping subsidize their grocery budget for the month. We provide meat, vegetables, fruit, and non-perishable items once a month to over 200 families in our community. Through this program we seek to engage our community in a new way, while helping provide for basic needs. Our mission is to provide quality meat and vegetables to families in need in our community without prejudice. The Community Table serves every individual that comes to our door without discriminating against age, race, gender, or socioeconomic status. In September we served 200 families equaling 653 persons, 169 of which were children and 88 seniors. At the Community Table we seek to give a hand up and not just a hand out by being a connection point for our families to other agencies with resources that they need. We know that we cannot do everything, but by linking arms with others in our community we can bring a unified front serving those families we encounter. At the Community Table we are always looking for meat, fresh veggies and fruit. These are coveted items among our families and items that they rarely get to enjoy. Hygiene items and cleaning supplies are a special treat and mean the world to our seniors and single mothers. Blankets for winter months are huge for those that can't afford gas for their trailers and can be utilized to bring warmth to several children sharing a bed. The Community Table is 100% donor funded at the moment and accepts all donations of food and funds.

State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
