The mission of the Giving Cupboard is to establish programs to alleviate hunger and hardship, increase self-sufficiency, and instill hope for a better future. We operate a choice food pantry in Rigby, Idaho where those in need can receive fresh, frozen, and canned foods, and other household necessities. Our clients include families trying to make ends meet, the working poor, people experiencing a temporary job loss, senior citizens, disabled individuals, veterans, and others in need. We hope that with access to fresh and nutritious food, and other essentials, our clients will be able to focus on improving their lives and strengthening their families. We appreciate donations of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as toiletries.
The best day of the week to drop off donations is Tuesdays between 1-3 PM. If you need a time outside of that timeframe, please call us to arrange.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
