The Nest Food Pantry is a food assistance program that we offer through the Care Center at Wake Technical Community College. The Care Center is a department where we assist students who are facing non-academic barriers that may affect their education. The food pantry here assist students who may be facing financial issues or food insecurities. We approximately assisted around 40 households a month. At the moment the food pantry offers non-perishable items. We would love to expand to perishable items such as produce, dairy, and possibly meat to help students maintain a healthy life style.
We would like to create a perishable items pop up event once a month at the school to give students the opportunity to select the items they need.

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
