We recommend calling or emailing the pantry ahead of time to be sure their days/hours of operation have not changed.

The Newport Salvation Army

: The Food pantry has been a staple service of The Salvation Army for many years and the Newport Corps is no exception. Offered three days a week, the Newport Corps opens its food pantry to assist those who are in need of groceries to help feed their families. Each pantry client receives a weeks supply of groceries and is able to return the following mouth for continued assistance. Last year we gave out 95,000 meals. The Pantry serves all of Newport County. On any given day 30 + family use the pantry.

ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!

State Cooperative Extension Web Sites

The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
