We provide food and personal care items for all people in need in Alpena County without discrimination. We want to be a healthy choice pantry. We have two refrigerators which we can receive produce and dairy items. We are also in need of personal care and laundry items. These items can not be purchased with government assistance which means they are a large request. We also ask for pull top cans since many are homeless or do not have can openers for cans.
We will be willing to receive donations during non-scheduled times. The contact information is Major Prezza Morrison at 898-766-3224. Call ahead and she will meet you at the office when you are available.
Our office is open Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 3:30pm. You can call us at 989-358-2769 before you come if you wish. There is an unloading area by the front door which you can park. Come in and we will come with a cart to unload. We will be able to give you a tax receipt if you wish. We do have a contactless donation bin outside of our office door for after hours.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
