United Christian Ministries (UCM) is a Food Pantry and Financial Assistance Ministry committed to helping individuals and families throughout Pickens County and Northern Anderson County. Our mission is to meet people where they are during difficult seasons and provide practical assistance that helps them move forward. Last year alone, UCM provided food assistance to nearly 10,000 people in our community. We understand that access to nutritious food is an important part of a healthy and stable life. That is why we have also stepped outside of the traditional food pantry model and tried our hand at gardening, growing fresh fruits and vegetables to provide our clients with healthier, fresh options. Through our food pantry, financial assistance, community partnerships, volunteers, and outreach efforts, UCM continues to look for new and creative ways to serve our community.
We believe that when we come together, we can make a meaningful difference in our neighbors' lives.
Yes, we can accept food during non-service hours, Monday- Friday, from 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 pm. We ask that you call prior so we can be in the pantry to receive the produce. If you are unable to call, we ask that you pull around back and knock on the employee entrance door that is near the brown gate.
We are open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 to 11:45 for food assistance, and 9 am to 1045 for financial assistance. Any time after that, we ask that donors call and schedule a time to drop off donations. 864-671-1134 ext. 1028
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
