We provide 2 free meal service programs for children in Lincoln. Every Saturday and Sunday at a local community center we offer 2 grab and go lunches and every Saturday at a local church we provide a sit-down meal and a take home meal for children. Our meals are planned with the guidance of a dietician to ensure we offer children healthy kid friendly meals. We offer food from all food groups and include fresh fruit and vegetables at every meal. Any type of protein, breads, fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, individual drink options and condiment products help us support our meal service. We provide between 350-400 meals each week.
We also support 4 food/personal care pantries. At this time, we offer nonperishable items in our pantries. We are in the process of getting a freezer at one of the locations and have a refrigerator at both locations. We can accept fresh items and meat products that we can use for our meal service or pantry distribution as long as the products would be useable on the weekends. All nonperishable items would support our pantries. Meals are provided to children through the age of 18 years. We can use any personal care items. A huge need for us is hair products for kids of color, toilet paper and cleaning products.
Please contact us at 402-570-4922 to discuss pick up or drop off of donations.
ProducePedia
ProducePedia is a free resource that covers the types of fresh produce that can be delivered to food pantries. Each entry includes information on color, taste, and possible uses. People unfamiliar with the vegetable or fruit will learn how to use it, and those who are familiar with it still might learn a fun fact or two!
The Cooperative Extension sites have a wealth of information for any backyard gardener. Once you go to the site (each one if very different from the others) look for a link for “homes and gardens”, “landscape”, “consumer horticulture”, etc. to find information on improving your backyard garden. Neighboring state sites may offer information your own state’s site lacks.
